To be honest, I thought Socks was long dead. But he was just put down this week. He had been living with Bettie Curry since the Clintons left the White House. Socks dodged a bullet by avoiding moving to New York — look at what happened to Buddy! I always say if my cat could talk, she would have some good stories to tell….but she would be no match for Socks…according to his obituary, he had free run of the White House and often appeared in the background of photos…just THINK what he might have witnessed in the Oval Office!

Socks lived to be a ripe old 19 or 20.

Iconic pin-up girl Bettie Page died today at age 85. She was an interesting one and you know I love that Bad Girl!! I always liked that she preserved her image by disappearing and not being photographed for 50 years! (Still remaining one of the most photographed images in the world!)

UGA would always be memorialized in my heart when I saw him jump up and snap at an opposing player during a live football game. Now that’s team spirit! UGA was just 1 month shy of his 10th birthday…Mommy’s Pretty Princess turns 10 this week! I hope she makes it!

When we visited Jerome out in Oakland 1 year ago, the yard was alive with chickens and Dewey the pig. About 6 months ago, Jerome gave us the sad news that all of the chickens except for Blackie had been wiped out by a raccoon(s). I just heard the sad news, on Jerome’s birthday, that Blackie too has been taken by a damn raccoon. R.I.P. Blackie. He was an inquisitive little guy. Poor Dewey must be sick with loneliness. Dewey always walked his dirt path with his entourage of chickens. Damn you, raccoons! (These are real pics of Blackie and Dewey).

Carlin dies at age 71 

Wow, Shane just blew me away with this news. I know George Carlin was pretty old but he seemed to have so much life left in him. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore, kids.

One of my favorite of George Carlin’s works is the “7 dirty words” bit – so folks, let’s all honor George this week by sprinkling the 7 dirty words around as much as possible. I think I have used everything except cocksucker today. Note to self.

So, while I have been without internets for the past couple of days, I have pretty much been sitting in my stool, drooling over the back cover of this month’s Dean and Deluca catalog. Call it fat girl porn. So, if you could only choose one of these, which would you choose? Descriptions included, compliments of Dean and Deluca!

Think of these as gourmet comfort starters. Welsh Rarebit Tomato Tart, Mashed Potato Toast, Monte Cristo Sandwich and Mini Shrimp Newburg Pot Pie. Watch as everyone comes back for seconds.

Pot pie was always Mom’s specialty, but we’ve taken it up a notch with Twin Hens. Beef pot pie is hormone-free beef, organic onions, peas, carrots, and a robust broth makes for a satisfying lunch.

Arborio rice is slow-cooked to make an exceptionally creamy risotto, then blended with white wine, Swiss cheese and delectable chunks of fresh Maine lobster meat and topped with a light cracker crumb crust. Served in individual portions on a scallop half shell, this is comfort food á la elegance.

I would have to go with the appetizers for the variety. I’m eating my hand now.
